What are toning shoes?

Toning shoes were all the rage a few years back. The manufacturers of those footwear used to make unbelievable promises for them. These promises ranged from encouraging weight loss to getting rid of cellulite to toning the glutes to treating sore backs. These shoes were built with a rocker on the sole geared towards increasing muscle activity to obtain those presumed benefits. Unfortunately, the evidence didn't stack up and there was a great deal of litigation from dissatisfied customers and many companies were forced to negotiate multi-million dollar pay outs with the Ftc.

Whilst all that is in the past you can find some of these shoes available and they still do have some support from those people who are familiar with thetoning shoes. The shoes can alter the way that you move and for some individuals that may sometimes lead to an improvement in some things like lower back pain. Equally, it could make some people with low back pain feel more painful. There is a lot of effort being geared towards studying just what these shoes do and precisely who can benefit from them and who may be harmed by them. Each person will likely react differently to them.

Foot doctors seem to especially like these types of toning shoes because of the kind of patients that they see. The rocker sole nature of the shoe means they particularly great for those with a painful great toe joint, as with the footwear the big toe doesn't need to move as much. However, while that could be useful for that joint it will put more strain on the ankle joint so might create or make more painful issues at the ankle joint. It was concerns like this that led to the legal issues previously and need to be carefully considered by anyone advising or using these shoes. They do have their uses and they can be helpful for the right people with the appropriate issue.
